Across the Willamette

Well, things didn’t work out exactly as planned, but I did get out for a while today.   We drove over to Albany and stopped at Ross and at Target for a quick shopping trip.    It seems that we were out of EVERYTHING, including ibuprofen and laundry detergent.   How could I possibly be expected to live without ibuprofen or laundry detergent?   Oh, woe is me!   Of course, Sami kicked and screamed all the way there, until she discovered she was getting new earbuds, shoes, and pants as a result.  Her demeanor changed, of course. :-)

On the way out, we stopped at the Orleans Cemetary, just on the east side of the Willamette River.   There were quite a few older graves, and some were fairly obscured by moss.  I wish I’d felt better and it wasn’t so cold out.   I would have enjoyed spending quite a bit of time out there.

The town of Orleans was once a rival to Corvallis, bustling and busy.   Then in 1860, a devastating flood swept most of the town away.  Few settlers remained, as they had their homes and livestock.  I’m not sure where the people who died prior to that date were buried, as most of the graves in the cemetery I visited were dug after the flood.   It’d be interesting to find the older site.

I’m looking forward to springtime when I can finally hit the trails and visit waterfalls, praries, as well as my beloved desert.  For now, the weather is crisp, the trips short, and my hopes high.

The Girl Behind the Lens

I am a road tripping camera junkie trying to break free of the 9-5 work-week.

I am also a single mother to a teenage daughter who is trying to break free of me.

.... somehow, I don't think either of us will escape unscathed.
