These past few weeks, a group of people within my department at work have been participating in a Secret Santa campaign. I am both awed and a little overwhelmed by the level of sneakiness my teammates posess. This time of year is the busiest season for the Support team and it’s really difficult to find a time to slip a little something onto your “giftee’s” cubicle. Yet the entire group has taken great job in surprising one another with trinkets and treats. It’s been great fun.
So we ended the event with a grand potluck (the Support team gives the BEST potlucks in Corvallis!). We also played a little game to identify our Santas. I got called away on a hot issue so I didn’t see my “giftee” open his gift and I couldn’t be present when my Santa was revealed. I wish I’d been there. Still, I had a great time these past few weeks- surprising my “giftee” with goodies.
I also had a wonderful time receiving the lovely gifts that my coworker Mindy (whom I also consider a friend) left for me. She even picked out the most wonderful picture frame as the “finale’” gift. Since I sit right across from her, you’d think I’d have suspected that she was my “Santa”. Nope. Completely clueless! She’s a sneaky one, all right. :-)
Thank you, Mindy. You have brightened these very long and sometimes dark days with your kind gestures and your friendship. I’m so glad that we’ve had the chance to get be neighbors this year. You’re the best!

I just finished a lengthy and relevant post and damned if IE 7.0 didn’t freeze up on me again and eat my entry before I could save or publish it.
Bah, I’m done for the night. I’ve got be up in three hours to bake cookies anyway. Perhaps I’ll retype it tomorrow.

It’s been a wild few weeks around here! Work is the busiest it’s ever been- I’ve actually been averaging 55-60 hour weeks for the last couple of months. Fortunately things will begin evening out beginning this next week. I’m on call for Christmas, but am hoping dearly that I don’t run into any problems.
We visited Portland last night- for a few hours at least. After my day at the office, Sami and I drove up to the Rose City, stopping at the Woodburn Outlet Mall for an hour or so worth of shopping and then on to the city. We stopped in at Chipotle and shared a Barbacoa burrito for dinner. Scrumptious!
Today, I got stuck at work again. By the time I got out, it was nearly five PM. I drove her to Springfield to see Max for a few hours. We’d been planning on going earlier, but work came first. The kids puttered around the mall for a while while I shopped at Target. As I was rounding them up for the night, I ran into an old friend (and her husband) whom I hadn’t seen in three years. Her son had grown so much since I’d last seen him, too! It was wonderful seeing them all and I hope that we’ll be able to keep in better touch. Of course, that falls on me as I always have such a rough time of keeping in touch with my friends and family. (Note to self: work on that, will ya?)
I hope to get into the kitchen to bake this week. Christmas isn’t Christmas without the smell of something yummy in the oven.
Now, off for a long, hot shower. I’m ready for bed.
